The text is written by Mahākṣapaṇaka, believed to be one among the Navaratnas ‘Nine Gems’ in the court of king Vikramāditya. The other name for this text is, Nānārthadhvanimañjarī. It’s a kind of Koṣa or Dictionary in modern sense. The text deals with the single words having shades of meanings. For example, the word ‘Shiva’ has several meanings like Lord Shiva, white colour, Shukra, Arka and so on. So also, the word Hari has a number of meanings. It also enumerates the meanings of single words like a, i, u etc. Moreover, it also states how a word is written differently, for example, how both the ways of writings in case of Āśāḍha & Āsāḍha, one with mūrdhanya & the other with dantya are found to be correct. This shows the richness of Sanskrit Language.
