This is a text which deals with a domestic ritual called Piṇḍadāna or offering of oblation to fore-fathers. Pitṛ means fore-fathers. Piṇḍadāna is one of the foremost duties of a son towards his fore-fathers. It saves us from Pitṛṛṇa or the debt of fore-fathers.
